Luigi Bertarelli, was born in 1846. He became the director of important manufacturing and chemical industries, and of numerous factories and companies. For many years he was mayor of Galbiate (Lecco), the family's country of origin. His brother Ambrogio, was a distinguished doctor of the Ospedale Maggiore and founder of the Dermosifilopatico department and Tommaso, another hospital benefactor. Bertarelli benefited the Ca 'Granda with a sum of 200,000 liras on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, after having previously donated other sums and above all equipment for the Photoradiotherapic section, flagship from the dermatology department. The commission of the portrait is entrusted to Ambrogio Alciati, who paints from life.
