Luigi Perelli Paradisi, a fervent Garibaldian, personally and financially participates in the Expedition of the Thousand, and even receives a private visit from Garibaldi to his villa in Premeno in Val d'Ossola (Verbania). A skilled horseman and great connoisseur of horses, in his will dated 27 May 1887, in which he named heir to the Maggiore Hospital and executor Antonio Ricci Oddi, he explicitly asked that the portrait "remember his passion for riding" and left a picture of him on horseback .
