Luigi Zoja (1866-1959), son of the anatomist Giovanni Zoja and nephew of the famous Bartolomeo Panizza, succeeded Carlo Forlanini as professor of the General Medical Clinic of the University of Pavia from 1919 to 1924, when he was called to cover the professorship in Milan of medical clinic at the "Conjugi Sacco" pavilion of the Policlinico. In Milan he deepened his research on diabetes, and in 1931 he founded the outpatient center for diabetics, the first of its kind in Italy.
