The portrayed faces, slightly off to the right. It has an oval face, black, straight hair parted on the left, combed sideways and close chops the ears. Wide, smooth forehead, dark eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes facing forward, nose with a rounded tip, well-marked and closed lips and square jaw. wear white shirt, black bow tie looking to his jacket lapel suggestion. Background in brown tone and smoky white. On the left side of the forehead, nose and shirt collar, some white touches, suggesting incidence of light on the figure portrayed.

  • Function: Portinari made this portrait at the sitter’s atelier at Rua das Laranjeiras 99, Rio de Janeiro. The execution of this portrait, like that of “Portrait of Carlos de Lima Cavalcanti” [FCO 2929], was documented on film in 1928 by Maurício, brother of Lula, who had just purchased one of the first video cameras in Brazil. It is the earliest video documentation of Portinari [FV 49].
