Portrait of the eminent scientist Marie Sklodowska Curie (1867-1934). In 1903, she won the Nobel Prize in Physics along with her husband, Pierre Curie, and the researcher Henri Becquerel. After initially being rejected by the Swedish Academy and following numerous setbacks, she became the first woman to be awarded this prize. After her husband's death, she went to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911.
