Michael Ancher (1849–1927) was born and raised on Frigaard, Rutsker Sogn, Bornholm. Michael Ancher was one of the first artists to move to the Skaw in the 1870s, but this otherwise pristine landscape of original, unique motifs was soon invaded by other artists. Chagrined by having to share the motifs with everyone else, Ancher made off for Bornholm and used his stay on his native island to paint a genre piece typical of Bornholm.
