Michele Giussani (1798-1873), owner of a haberdashery shop in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano with his wife, donated four of his houses to the Maggiore Hospital in Milan. The portrait is commissioned to Sebastiano De Albertis, who performs the painting "from life", which is not very common. Giussani is depicted leaving a church.
