Jan Matejko introduced Mikołaj Zyblikiewicz - a burgher, as the Marshal of the Sejm. The painter referred to the tradition of a representative portrait, in a pose taken from Sarmatian portraits of nobility and magnates. He showed him with a marshal's staff in his right hand, in a national costume, in a cap with a heron's feather pony, a carabel at his side with a commander's cross of the Order of Emperor Franz Joseph on his neck and a commander's cross of the Order of the Iron Italian Crown. The Mayor of the City of Krakow in the years 1874-1881 stands in front of a decorative fabric.
