This small oil painting is a typical example of rabbinical portrays painted in the first half of the nineteenth century. The man with the beard, wearing a fur hat is Moses Münz, the famous rabbi of the Jewish community in Óbuda. It was under his rabbinate that the Jewish community of Óbuda became the most prominent in Hungary, and its institutional infrastructure developed during his time, too. The synagogue of Óbuda was built in his days, which was described as the most beautiful building of the kingdom by Franz Schams, a contemporary traveler. This small portrait was painted by Johann Baptist von Lampi, who was an eminent portrait artist of the Austrian court, teacher at the Academy in Vienna, and who painted portraits of several prominent figures of the time.
