Elena Karamihaylova was particularly interested in the role of light in painting and in depicting intimacy. Her compositions of children and mothers reveal some of the characteristic features of post-Impressionism, as well as those as Symbolism. Her richly nuanced paintings in delicate silver-greyish tones rank her among the top early 20th-century Bulgarian artists.
