The engraving consists of two parts: an upper tondo with an effigy of Napoleon in aquatint, signed: "Levachez 1802" [with "Z" and "2" reversed], under which is the inscription in the tabula: "BONAPARTE / Premier Consul de la République Francaise / le 18 Brumaire, An.VIII "; and a lower battle scene, made in etching, with indication of responsibility and title: "Duplessi-Bertaux del. / Bataille de Marengo, comandée par le premier Consul, le 25 Prairial, An.VIII".
