More Information: The singer Jenny Lind became world-famous in the 1840s when she appeared to great success in a number of operatic roles.
This portrait is a hard retouched so-called salted paper photograph probably taken around 1844 by an unidentified photographer. The calotype was developed by Englishman William Henry Fox Talbot and patented by him in 1841. It was the first photographic process to feature a negative, which, using light exposure, could be used to produce a positive copy.
