The most famous feature of Bernini’s works is his ability to translate his subjects’ personalities and status in sculptures. When he was commissioned the execution of the ruling Pope Clement X by his powerful nephew Paluzzo Paluzzi Altieri degli Albertoni, he started the execution of this work that the Cardinal wanted for its private collection. When the Pope died, Bernini suspended the realisation of this bust which was probably completed by a member of his workshop, that may be identified as his son Paolo Valentino.
