In 1794 in Vienna Vigee-Lebrun painted a portrait of Princess Alexandra Golitsyna, wife of the equerry A.A.Golitsyn, and her son. This is an example of the so-called "Greek manner". In it she followed the principles of emergent classicism. Vigee-Lebrun depicted the princess against a background of antique pilasters, enhancing the resonance of her beloved colours, red and white, and stressing the gentle femininity of the mother and the happy liveliness of the child.
