Alexander Monro Primus, Professor of Anatomy (1720-1764), was one of the founders of the Edinburgh Medical School in 1726. This was the first medical faculty in a British University and Monro quickly developed it into a renowned centre for medical teaching, attracting students from all over the world. Bought jointly by The University of Edinburgh and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh with contributions from the National Fund for Aquisitions and The Art Fund University of Edinburgh.
