Richard Baxter (1615-1691). Portrait is attributed to John Riley (1646-1691). The Baxter portrait hangs in the reception area of Dr Williams's Library looking across to the portraits of Dr. Daniel Williams and to Joseph Priestley. It was presented to the library by Mr. Shower, June 1751, an executor to Mrs Martha Cakes, widow of Rev. John Cakes of Cheshunt.
The National Portrait Gallery holds 25 further portraits of Baxter, mostly frontispiece prints from his published books.
