Portrait of Stoyan Zaimov

Ivan Mrkvička, Chech by nationality, recently graduated from the Academy of Arts in Prague and having specialised in Munich, arrived in Bulgaria in 1881, where he won recognition as an artist and a leading figure in the emerging new artistic life that followed the Liberation. He was generally recognised as a master of the new style in our art - that of genre painting.
