Teodosio Cottini (1838-1901), a wealthy lawyer, in his will establishing the usufructuary of his entire patrimony, his wife earmarks a property with a large villa in Golasecca (Varese) at the Institute for Sons of Providence, 50,000 lire at the Veneranda Fabbrica dl Duomo , 20,000 to the City of Milan for the restoration of the Sforzesco castle; the remaining patrimony divides it in equal parts between the Ospedale Maggiore and the Municipality of Milan, so that it completes the Civic Museum of Natural History and encourages its teaching and scientific dissemination.
