Paluzzo Paluzzi degli Altieri is portrayed here in a painting by Giovanni Battista Gaulli, known as il Baciccio, one of the most important baroque painters in Rome. The Cardinal is wearing the traditional red dress and hat, which contrast with the dark background; his eyes are turned towards the viewer. Gaulli's portraits reveal strong Vandyckian infuences and a constant attention to Bernini's work.
