According to Vigée-Le Brun's memoirs, she painted an oval portrait of Mme de Chatenay in 1782 and a portrait of the mother, Mme de Chatenay in 1787. She exhibited an oval portrait of Mme la Comtesse de Chatenois in the Salon of 1785. Another version, apparently also by the artist, was in the collection of Baron Saint-Avoye, William Salomon (1923), and Georges Wildenstein (the present whereabouts of this picture is unknown). The Ponce picture can be traced back to the Reinhardt Collection and to the Toledo exhibition of 1912. There is also a similar picture, said to be of Mme de Chatenay, which was formerly in the collection of Mme de Saint-Alary.
