The pair of the canvas titled Portrait of Queen María Luisa (Retrato de la Reina María Luisa). Both are replicas of the original portraits of the monarchs completed by Francisco Goya as court painter to mark their coronation in December 1788.
At this time, Goya received so many official demands that he had to turn to his workshop of students for help, including Agustín Esteve.

This court painting follows official portrait conventions and depicts Charles IV dressed in French style. The insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleece is clear to see, as is that of the Order of Charles III on the lapel, as well as the red, white, and blue bands of these orders with the blue of the French Saint-Esprit. It is on deposit from the Prado Museum (Museo Nacional del Prado).
