Émile Bernard here created a synthetic portrait which he presented to the British painter Eric Forbes-Robertson, known as "John the Celt." Two Breton women stand out in the background, outlined in black in a composition with symbolist overtones. Remaining as collateral with "La Belle Angèle," this painting is among the last major works from Bernard's Pont-Aven period.
