"Elisabeth II official portrait, at the age of 29 or 30 years, dressed for the court. She wears the order and the award of M. Louise.

At that time painters of Madrazo family had the privilege to have a studio in the Madrid Royal palace itself. Isabel II did not like to pose and she only did it while the painter drew her face sketch. The rest of the portrait was painted based on a model dressed with the queen cloth and jewels.

Luis de Madrazo y Kuntz (Madrid, 1825 – 1897) worked with his father José de Madrazo until 1859 and later with his brother Federico, both painters of the queen chamber. Between the years 1863 and 1864, Luis went very often to the Royal Palace in Madrid to portray the Queen and the Asturias prince."
