Vincenzo Cartis (1821-1904), a wealthy Milanese shopkeeper, allocates his entire inheritance to charitable works; at the Maggiore Hospital he leaves his house in via Felice Cavallotti 6 and 100,000 lire. His heir, a family friend, proposes to perform the portrait Amerino Cagnoni; instead we choose Ermenegildo Agazzi, who performs an almost expressionistic portrait.
