Milan, Italy

The Abruzzese accountant Vincenzo Fiore (1902-1930), employed at the South Bank of Castellammare Adriatico, is among the non-Milanese benefactors of the Ospedale Maggiore. In his will he names the hospital as universal heir and Ca 'Granda assigns the role of the portrait to Michele Cascella, fellow countryman of the benefactor, but Milanese by adoption. The work, which belongs to the artist's youthful activity, already highlights the characteristics of his long artistic career: the predilection for the landscape, for certain chromatic choices, for a pictorial execution with loose and free strokes, especially in the background.
