Wang Xinqu (1594-1678) was born in the Fujian province, and immigrated into Nagasaki from China as a merchant trader in the middle 17th century. He was also a prosperous supporter of Sofukuji temple in Nagasaki, in which Yinuan Longgi was invited as its chief priest. This portrait was painted by Kita Genki who was famous for his extremely detailed portraits of some priests. This is a very important and a rare portrait depicts a secular person by Genki.
