Watercolor painting of a portrait of young man, flanked by a sailor and Lady Liberty. Flags, oars cross, sextant, anchor, capstan, chain, compass, harp, wreath, spear, furled sail, and part of full rigged ship under sail fill the space around the oval portait. The inscription beneath the portrait reads, "Sacred to the memory of our brother-William, lost at sea, AD 1852, aged 16". Another inscription along the scroll reads, "Tis ours on Thy unerring laws to trust Whatever is, wilt Thee great God is Just."
