Theodor Fontane was one of Marcel Reich-Ranicki’s favorite authors. In the evening, when Reich-Ranicki used to tell stories to the Polish couple who hid him and his wife during the war, he often fell back on Fontane’s novels, retelling them from memory.
Horst Janssen was one Germany’s most productive graphic artists of the 1950s and 60s. He illustrated many artists’ books and did numerous portraits of poets and writers. There are 20 works by Janssen in the Marcel Reich-Ranicki Collection.
