In the first decorative plan of the room of night and day, Michelangelo the Younger had thought to portray in a single oval Leonardo Buonarroti, creator of the cappella in Santa Croce, at the side of Simone Buonarroti, maker of the temple. The ultimate choice was instead to depict Leonardo, Michelangelo’s loved nephew, at the side of the same illustrious uncle, of the grandfather Lodovico and of the wife Cassandra.
