The protagonist of this multiple portrait is Giovan Simone, Michelangelo’s brother, depicted with a pen and a book, as a poetry writer. Beside him are three homonymous family Buonarroti’s ancestors. The oldest, Simone di Buonarrota, gaves the Simoni name to the family and died in 1314; the second was repeatedly prior and died in 1373; the third, that puts his hand on a building plan placed on the table, overlaid public offices and build the small temple for pilgrims shown in the drawing.
