The postcard, sent from Weisswasser/Oberlausitz to Berlin in 1920, has been stamped with 3 different Germania postage stamps. The colors of the 5-, 10-, and 20-penny stamps of the Germania collection comply with the mandatory colors determined by the Universal Postal Union in 1906. Each color denotes different items being sent abroad: blue for letters, red for postcards, and green for printed materials.
The stamps of the Germania series were in use for the longest time and are the most famous of the permanent collection in the German Empire. Launched on January 1, 1900, by 1922 several hundred million stamps had been printed and sent around the world.
