At the 1901 Pan-American Exposition, fairgoers were impressed by the bold hues of red, blue, green and gold encasing the Spanish Renaissance-style buildings featuring industrial exhibits and displays. While architecture served as a crucial design element for almost every fair, bright colors such as these were rarely featured. Officials instructed that all buildings on the fairgrounds be constructed as temporary, with the exception of the New York State Building, which stands today in Buffalo's Delaware Park as a National Landmark.
