Alice Steele, of West Cummington, MA, built over 300 miniature rooms, like dollhouse rooms, during her lifetime. She opened her home, during the mid-twentieth century, as Steele's Tiny Old New England Museum. She dispersed her collection later during her life and Margaret Strong, on whose collections the National Museum of Play at The Strong are based, purchased a large group of them. Mrs. Steele commissioned postcards to advertise her museum during its heyday.
