North Terrace Park, now known as the Colonade, was built in 1907-1908. The park was part of the sprawling urban parks and boulevards system built in Kansas City that became part of the City Beautiful movement that saw parks, fountains, boulevards, and recreation areas built, many times displacing lower class residents and demolshing lower income housing to make way for the new city beautification efforts.
