Postcard:The Biltmore Hotel, New York

Travelers often collected postcards of the hotels they visited. Hotel guests enjoyed beautiful architecture, sky-high views, and luxurious rooms, all of which often appeared on souvenir postcards such as this one. Staying in a hotel was one of the main attractions of a trip, as it offered vacationers an escape from daily life but with all the comforts of home and sometimes even more. This postcard, postmarked 1917, captures the experience of one traveler, with a simple inscription on the reverse side which reads: "We are having a lovely time, this is a wonderful place."
