The colour lithograph by Maurice Biais is an advertising poster for La Maison Moderne, a gallery in Paris for interior decoration in the Art Nouveau style. It was founded by Julius Meier-Graefe in 1899. The illustration shows an elegant woman looking at objects arranged in a showcase designed by Henry van de Velde. The objects on display were available in La Maison Moderne and were made by artists such as Maurice Dufrène or Abel Landry as well as the Danish manufacturer Bing and Groendahl.
