This decorated pot comes from the so-called Linear Pottery period. The name derives from the characteristic pottery of an agricultural people who settled in southern Limburg, a region abounding in loess soil, in the 6th millennium BC. Most of it consisted of round bowls, covered with linear motifs and indentations that were applied with spatulas or small combs. Plain, unadorned pottery was also produced. The pots were used for cooking or food storage, or as kitchenware.
