Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo

Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo
Linares (Jaén), Spain

From the Temple of La Muela, next to the Guadalimar River, is this curious pot, made of coarse and dark ceramic, but looking like a metal container (has rows of peaks that simulate rivets and a square base).

It is dated in the seventh century B.C., and it shows contacts of Castulo with tartessios and Phoenicians. Since prehistoric times, the connection to the eastern Mediterranean was established through the Guadalimar river. No wonder that this pot was found in a kitchen of the sanctuary of La Muela , which is situated over the river and harbor.
