Pot

This pot is an important example of Chinese porcelain, created for export on commission, after the voyages of the Portuguese to the Orient.
The porcelain pot with the insignia of the Augustinian Order is a rare and fundamental piece in the small group of objects identified as 16th-century Chinese export pottery decorated with coats of arms. Only a very small number of similar pieces are known to exist.
The iconography of the coat of arms of the Order of St. Augustine – a heart pierced by two arrows surmounted by a two-headed eagle – points to a specific commission that was destined for a monastery of that congregation, possibly the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Macau.
