The opening session of the Potsdam Conference began on 17 July 1945 at 5 p.m. sharp. They met 13 times in the conference hall at Cecilienhof Palace to negotiate the post-war order in Europe. In the mornings, the sub-committees and foreign ministers sat around the conference table and prepared the afternoon sessions. (Matthias Simmich)
