"Powrót posła/"The Deputy's Return" by Niemcewicz, act I, scene IX, etching. “Powrót posła” /“The Deputy’s Return”, a comedy by Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz. Its premiere in 1791 was closely related to the parliamentary sessions of the Four – Year Sejm. The aim of the drama to encourage reforms of the state was achieved: “Powrót posła” /“The Deputy’s Return” became the subject of an animated debate, parliamentary speeches, communications of the royal office and diplomatic correspondence.
