Fire of the National Theatre. On 9th March 1985, due to a short-circuit, the National Theatre burnt down for the fifth time in its history. Calderon’s “Life is a Dream” was being rehearsed at the time. Rebuilding of the new edifice designed by Józef Chmiel took the longest in the history of the National Theatre – eleven years.
