Pterosaurs flourished in every period of the Mesozoic Era, the chapter of Earth’s ancient history when dinosaurs dominated the land. More than 150 pterosaur species emerged and died out during that time. Preondactylus buffarinii is one of the oldest species, dating back around 220 million years. Like many early pterosaurs, Preondactylus buffarinii had a very long tail.
