Preparatory sketch in black ink of a still life, dated 1887. A group suggesting the bounty of the sea was a popular theme in Japanese painting. In this drawing, Katei experimented with different compositions of fish, octopus, crab, crustaceans and shellfish, together with a branch of peach blossom indicating summer (see also 56.50.88).
