The theme of an eagle bearing down on a cowering monkey originated in Chinese painting and was a visual representation of the saying, “the eagle which doesn’t look up,” meaning a creature without predators and superior in strength. Though well disguised, a separate piece of paper has been pasted on in the area of the monkeys and the eagle’s wing, suggesting revisions.
