Preparatory sketch

The landscape design here is for two lightweight sliding doors known as fusuma, found in traditional Japanese houses. We can tell this by the small circles at centre left and right indicating where the hand-pulls would be placed. The composition on the left appears to be for a hanging scroll, with magpies beneath a pine tree.
