Preparatory sketch

During his years of training as a painter, Katei had pursued sketching from life tirelessly and he encouraged his pupils to do the same. This sketch shows a glimpse of an artist experimenting with various motifs, abandoning some attempts, developing others and re-using the same sheet as his focus of attention shifts.
