This image is a scan of an original photo from the Viking Mission communications team at NASA Langley. The caption includes the following. This is the first close up view of the preselected landing site for Viking 2 in an area called Cydonia. The image was taken by Viking Orbiter 1 at 3:14pm, June 28th 1975 using pictures taken 4.5 seconds apart from aproximately 2050 kilometers (1270 miles) from the planet surface. On the right edge is the rim of the Arandas crater which is aproximately 15 miles in diameter. It was described by NASA as having "rocks outfropping the inner wall, and ejecta (rock material blasted from the crater when it was created by meteoric impact) from a lobate pattern with surface ridges and grooves. Also seen are pedestal craters that may have been caused by impact and etched out by the wind. The Center of the left image is at 43 degrees N. Latitude, 7.6 degrees W. Longitude; and the right is 42.4 degrees N. Latitude and 7.3 degrees W Longitude. Each is aproximately 37 by 40 miles."
