The former site of Uijeongbu was designed to display a single scenery of layered history via re-interpretation of the Joseon Dynasty’s supreme governing body that the Uijeongbu buildings once used to symbolize. Historical archives were researched to re-interpret the architecture, plantation, walls, ponds, and Hwagye (terraced planters) of the Joseon Dynasty period to function in today’s urban environment. The layout of the space defines its characteristics, while the size and levels of the space delicately hint at archetypal memories to realize a creative restoration process.
