Preserving Tonojima Cucumber's seeds

Many of Tsuruoka's heirlooms crops were brought from outside of the city by travellers or citizens moving back to their hometown. These alien species have adapted to the local climate and natural environment with the help of local farmers selecting the best seeds. These food ingredients have become a key element in various local dishes unique to this region as well as an important part of religious and ceremonial dishes.
